March 08, 2016

During 2015, the John Paul II Foundation for the Sahel awarded nearly $1 million to support 91 self-help agricultural projects in the Sahel region of Africa, according to the Holy See Press Office.

The foundation, which operates under the auspices of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, is meeting in Senegal this week.

The press office stated that the foundation supported projects “against desertification, in defense of the environment, for the management and development of agricultural units, the installation of water pumps, the improvement of drinking water, and for renewable energy.”
