Another unexpected papal phone call: to convicted Italian murderer

January 21, 2016

A convicted murderer in Italy is the latest person to report a private phone call from Pope Francis.

Pietro Maso, who was imprisoned for 22 years after being convicted of killing his parents, said that the Pope called him after he wrote to ask for forgiveness. Maso, who was released in 2013, now lives in Milan.

"I was evil with a capital 'E' and yet the Pope took pity on me," he said.

Wonderful! Pope Francis finally expresses mercy in a way that does not undermine Church teaching! This is what we want in a Pope.
