Panama’s bishops rue moral crisis
January 20, 2016
Calling for “ethical and spiritual renewal,” Panama’s bishops have issued a statement lamenting the nation’s “moral crisis of values, attitudes, motivations, and conduct.”
The bishops said they observed a “growing distrust, indifference, apathy, and ignorance” that has the potential to undermine democracy. They also expressed concern about “violence, crime, murder,” the plight of Cuban migrants, and environmental problems.
The Central American nation of 3.9 million is 87% Catholic.
