Since 1964, the Marxist-Leninist rebel group has fought against Colombia’s government. Over 175,000 civilians have lost their lives in the conflict.
“We have evidence to prove that forced abortion was a policy of the FARC that was based on forcing a female fighter to abort so as not to lose her as an instrument of war,” said Luis Eduardo Montealegre, Colombia’s attorney general.
The female fighters were often raped by their male colleagues, and many of the victims were minors, according to media reports.
