Pro-life group honors Brazilian archbishop for strong stand against abortion

Human Life International has conferred its Cardinal von Galen award, for courageous pro-life leadership, upon Archbishop José Cardoso Sobrinho of Olinda and Recife, Brazil, who weathered a storm of international criticism after he announced the excommunication of the adults involved in procuring an abortion for a 9-year-old girl there. Father Thomas Euteneuer, the president of Human Life International, remarked that "Archbishop Sobrinho acted with great compassion toward the young girl and her family, and with even greater courage in making what he surely knew would be an unpopular decision."
