USCCB grants over $10M to US mission dioceses

October 20, 2015

A subcommittee of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has granted over $10.0 million to 85 US “home mission” dioceses, most of them in rural areas.

The funds are provided by an annual collection, and the figure represents an increase of $1 million over the amount announced last year.

“The needs of home mission dioceses are real, as often basic spiritual and pastoral necessities cannot be met by the diocese alone,” said Bishop Peter Christensen of Boise, chairman of the Subcommittee on Catholic Home Missions. “We are incredibly grateful for the many people who make these grants possible; it is thanks to their generosity that the Church here at home is strengthened and faith communities are sustained.”
