USCCB grants $9M to US mission dioceses

November 05, 2014

A subcommittee of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has granted nearly $9.03 million to 83 US “home mission” dioceses, most of them in rural areas.

The funds are provided by an annual collection.

“A bishop in a home mission diocese struggles to meet the basic spiritual and pastoral needs of his flock,” said Bishop Peter Christensen of Superior, chairman of the Subcommittee on Catholic Home Missions. “We help by providing grants that cover the cost of essential services-- from educating seminarians to providing religious education materials to needy parishes.”
