Summaries of Synod talks removed from Polish bishops' web site

October 12, 2015

The Polish bishops' conference has removed summaries of the talks delivered by participants in the Synod of Bishops, which had been posted at the bishops' web site.

The brief summaries of Synod addresses, identifying the bishops who had spoken, had appeared last week on the Polish bishops' site. These summaries-- similar to daily reports that had been relased by the Vatican press office during previous Synods-- appeared to violate the new rules of procedure for this Synod. This year-- and for the extraordinary Synod last year-- the Vatican released only short summaries of the themes that were discussed, without identifying the prelates who raised particular points. The new rules allow individual bishops to make their addresses public if they wish, on their own initiative.
