Vienna’s cardinal cautions against panic in face of refugee crisis
September 08, 2015
Cardinal Christoph Schönborn of Vienna traveled to Nickelsdorf, a small Austrian town on the Hungarian border, after 71 migrants were discovered dead in a truck on the Budapest-Vienna highway.
Appealing to “elementary humanity”-- “these people have the same fears, worries, hopes”-- the prelate cautioned against panic over Europe’s refugee crisis, according a local newspaper report.
“Only 1% of the world’s refugees,” he said, are entering Europe, and their number constitutes only 0.1% of Europe’s population.
