Vatican health director will step down
July 28, 2015
Dr. Patrizio Polisca, the director of Vatican Health Services, will step down from that post at the end of July, the Vatican has announced.
Father Federico Lombardi, the director of the Vatican press office, said that Dr. Polisca is coming to the end of a 5-year term, so his departure is not remarkable. He will continue to act as personal physician to Pope-emeritus Benedict XVI.
The new director of Vatican Health Services has not yet been named. In recent years, the doctor filling that position has also served as personal physician to the Pontiff; it is not yet known whether Pope Francis intends to maintain that arrangement.
