Papal appeal for Asian migrants and refugees
May 25, 2015
Pope Francis appealed to the international community to assist thousands of refugees who are fleeing Bangladesh and Myanmar for other nations because of poverty and religious persecution.
“I continue following with great concern the news of the many refugees in the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea,” he said following his Pentecost Sunday Regina Caeli address.
“I express my appreciation for the efforts made by those countries that have expressed willingness to welcome these people, who are facing great suffering and danger,” he added. “I encourage the international community to provide them with the necessary humanitarian assistance.”
