Papal trip to South America set for July?

April 14, 2015

Pope Francis will travel to Ecuador, Bolivia, and Paraguay in July, the Associated Press has reported.

Citing Italian media reports, AP says that the Pontiff will spend two days in Ecuador, beginning July 6. He will then continue to Bolivia, and on to Paraguay, spending two days in each country.

The papal trip would include stops at the shrine of Our Lady of El Quinche in Ecuador, a Mass celebrated at an altitude of 13,000 feet in Bolivia, and a Mass in Paraguay for a congregation that could reach one million.

The Vatican has not officially confirmed plans for a papal trip to South America. But in January, the Holy Father told reporters who accompanied him on his flight from Manila to Rome that plans “in draft form” had been made for a trip to the same three countries: Ecuador, Bolivia, and Paraguay.
