Kenyan bishops see 'national disaster' caused by terrorist attacks

Raids by Islamic terrorists are causing a “national disaster” in Kenya, the Catholic bishops’ justice-and-peace commission reports.

Archbishop Zaccheus Okoth, who chairs the commission, told a press conference that the government should post troops at critical points on the northern border to deter attacks by the Al Shabaab militia based in Somalia. Pointing to a massacre of Christians in the region on November 22, he said that the withdrawal of government officials from the region could be justified “as a temporary measure” until security is restored.
