Pope requests prayers for Mexico

October 30, 2014

Pope Francis has requested prayers for Mexico as authorities investigate what happened to 43 students in Iguala on September 26.

Investigators have found that local police kidnapped the student and handed them over to drug traffickers. The discovery of a mass grave of burned bodies suggests that the students may have been burned alive. According to the Associated Press, a group of parents recently expressed hope that their children may still be living.

“I would like to raise a prayer and draw close in our hearts to the people of Mexico, who are suffering from the loss of these students and many similar problems,” the Pope said following his October 29 general audience. “May our hearts be close to them in prayer at this time.”
