Victory for Catholic business owner against HHS mandate
September 24, 2014
Citing the Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby decision, the US Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit has overturned a lower court decision involving a Catholic business owner who objected to the HHS mandate.
Frank O’Brien, the head of a ceramic raw-materials company, had filed suit against the mandate, which forces employers to provide insurance coverage for contraception, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs. A lower federal court had dismissed O’Brien’s religious-freedom challenge to the mandate.
