Pope donates skull cap for charity auction

September 19, 2014

An Italian television show has persuaded Pope Francis to donate a zucchetto for a charity auction, and the bidding has already soared to $130,000.

The host of the show Le Iene appeared at the Pope’s public audience and offered the Pontiff a white skull cap in exchange for the one he was wearing. After a pause the Pope accepted the deal. The Pope’s used zucchetto went on auction on the Italian Ebay site on September 18, and within 24 hours the bidding had reached €105,000.

The proceeds of the auction will be given to an Italian charity working with children in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

It's you. I don't see anything tacky about it at all.
