Cardinal Dolan: Islamic leaders must speak out against terrorism

September 05, 2014

Islamic leaders should be challenged to speak out in condemnation of terrorists, Cardinal Timothy Dolan on New York has said.

In an interview with John Allen of the new Crux news site, Cardinal Dolan said that he hoped Pope Francis will challenge Islamic leaders to “speak up in an effective way,” condemning violence, as Catholic bishops condemned the violence of terrorists in Ireland.

On other issues, Cardinal Dolan:

  • Said that the US bishops are no longer debating the question of whether Communion should be denied to Catholic politicians who support legal abortion, but are leaving that question to individual bishops. “Most don’t think it’s something for which we have to go to the mat,” he said.
  • Voiced his hope that the Vatican will be faster in responding to requests from diocesan bishops for action on the cases of priests guilty of sexual abuse, and that bishops themselves will be held accountability for their handling of the problem.

It looks like "leading from behind is the management philosophy of the USCCB as well as the Obama administration". U.S. Catholics no longer can be sure where the Church stands on moral issues, just as they can no longer be sure where the U.S. stands on international issues! Apparently, leadership is a thing of the past for our leaders.

With leadership like that of Cardinals Dolan, Wuerl, O'Malley, etc., Biden, Pelossi, Mikulski, etc., are effectively encouraged on their way to perdition. The Bishops are the uncertain buglers of our time. And they wonder why we are experiencing such massive moral confusion.

If the cardinal and the rest of the bishops ignore Canon Law, why shouldn't we?
