The Czech Republic, which was formed in 1993 following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, will hold its first national Eucharistic congress in 2015, the Italian news agency SIR has reported.
Czechs suffered decades of particularly harsh Communist rule after World War II. Only one-fifth of Czechs professed religious belief in the 2011 national census.
“With this step we want to deepen Eucharistic devotion in our country,” said Bishop Jan Vokál of Hradec Králové. “I believe that the congress will bring a great renewal of faith and love for the Eucharist.”
