German theologians launch signature drive rebuking Pope for gesture toward SSPX

A number of German-speaking Catholic theologians have joined in a petition drive criticizing the Pope's effort to achieve reconciliation with the traditionalist Society of St. Pius X and suggesting that the Pope's policies conflict with the spirit of Vatican II. "We sense a desire to return to a pre-Vatican II Church with its fear of openness to the breath of the Holy Spirit," complain the signatories of a statement that was launched by German, Austrian, and Swiss theologians.
