Cardinal Pell backs papal comments opposing easy annulment

In an Australian television interview, Cardinal George Pell of Sidney has strongly backed the statement delivered by Pope Benedict XVI in his annual address to the Roman Rota. Cardinal Pell said that he, like the Pope, sees a grave danger in providing easy annulments for married couples on vague grounds of emotional immaturity. Young people contemplating marriage generally shows signs of their youth, he said. "But because a person is a typical 20 or 21-year-old it's difficult to see how that would be ground for a declaration that there wasn't a genuine marriage."
