Papal greetings for street entertainers

December 03, 2012

Pope Benedict XVI welcomed a group of circus performers, street musicians, and other entertainers to the Paul VI auditorium in a special event organized for “itinerant performers” on December 1.

In his remarks to the group, the Pope said that street performers engage in “an immediate form of communication.” He applauded their ability to bring together different people of different generations and different walks of life, and said that he hoped that local authorities would recognize the value of their work and minimize the obstacles they faced in finding appropriate locations and permissions for their performances.
