Archbishop Dolan: government must stop intrusion in Church

February 09, 2012

New York’s Archbishop Timothy Dolan has indicated that he would welcome any sign that the Obama administration is prepared to back away from its mandate requiring coverage of contraception and sterilization in employers’ health plans.

The New York prelate, who will soon receive a cardinal’s red hat from Pope Benedict XVI, said that he would be happy to hear indications from federal officials that “we’re willing to rethink this.” Although the White House has hinted that some compromise might be possible, no such gesture has yet been forthcoming.

Archbishop Dolan, who is also president of the US bishops’ conference, told a reporter: “The federal government should do what it’s traditionally done since July 4, 1776, namely back out of intruding into the internal life of a Church.”

When will the bishops learn how to tell when a liberal politician is lying? It's when their lips are moving.

Do you or any commenters see any hope that the USCCB will in their Spring meeting finally take out the ambiguity of Faithful Citizenship? Remove the wiggle room "enabling," perhaps even encouraging voters for the very people who diss the Constitution and openly attack the Church? Is there any hope for that?

As I write this, the White House e-mail contact system is 'down for maintenance' today. Do not let that discourage you from making your voice heard! I will be checking back frequently as I have my e-mail ready to send.

If this were the NRA under attack, every member would be mobilized to flood the White House and Congress with calls,letters,e-mails. It is the only way to focus lawmakers on the seriousness of this issue as a life issue and a religious freedom issue. It is also a critical moment to instruct Catholics, many of whom do not understnad the Church's (our Lord's)teaching on contraception. Learning that'the pill' is an abortificent does change minds and hearts-few women really want to kill their child.

How do you expect to mobilize every Catholic in this country. 50 percent or more voted for obama in 2008. We are now paying for that mistake. And it'll continue until he is out!!!!!

Psst! Archbishop Dolan, "welcoming any sign" that the government might be rethinking its position is a wimpy response. This is not the way to deal with the government. Take a lesson from Planned Parenthood and the cancer foundation -- carpet bomb the administration! Mobilize every Catholic and evangelical in the country. Make the government think twice about ever offending the Catholic faith again.

Good on Bishop Dolan. I love a straight-talking bishop!

Ain't happening,Archbishop Dolan, but of course, you know that. The Obama administration and the so-called "Catholics" in Congress would as soon as spit on you as act morally regarding employee health coverage.
