Catholic Recipe: Rolada z Befsztyka (Steak Rolls)

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 2 1/2 pounds round steak, pounded well
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/ cup hot water
  • 2 tablespoons dry bread crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 2 medium onions, finely chopped
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon flour

These little stuffed steak strips are the perfect Christmas appetizer.

DIRECTIONS

Heat vinegar; pour over meat; reserve 15 minutes.

Heat butter in large, heavy skillet with tight-fitting cover. Brown meat on both sides. Add hot water. Cover. Simmer 1-1/2 hours, adding additional water if necessary.

Combine bread crumbs, melted butter, onions, salt, pepper. When meat and filling are prepared, cut steak in 2-inch strips. Spread steak strips with filling. Roll. Fasten with skewers. Return to pan. Sprinkle with flour. Cover. Simmer 1 hour.

Yield, 6 servings
