Catholic Activity: The Home, a Training Ground
Model your home after the Holy Family, preparing each child for his mission of serving God in this world.
DIRECTIONS
As a training ground the Christian home goes back to Nazareth itself, where Joseph the carpenter and Mary his wife put all their talents into the God-given and exquisite assignment of rearing the Christ Child; of supervising and guiding His human development until lie was ready to take His place in the world He had come to redeem.
Every home shares this divine purpose with the Holy Family. The home exists first and foremost that the little ones born to- a man and woman who become one by virtue of the sacrament of Matrimony, may grow strong in soul and body. Parents, by thus preparing children to take their place where they can best serve God, fulfill in the highest possible degree the particular vocation for which they were created.
As parents who are justly proud of their home, you should recognize in it an institution as important to Christian civilization as Christian civilization is important to the world. You should realize that, along with the duties, responsibilities, and genuine hard work of parenthood, there is dignity, honor and glory; that there is an actual sharing of experience, a living, breathing kinship with St. Joseph and the Blessed Mother. Every Christian home is modeled on Nazareth and every Christian child is created to the image and likeness of God.
