Catholics in Political Life
by
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
Description
Statement issued by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) at their biannual meeting held in Colorado dealing with the topic of denying pro-abortion Catholic politicians Communion. The statement leaves it up to the individual bishops to decide how to proceed in their own diocese. Regarding the public platforms that are sometimes given pro-abortion Catholic politicians, the bishops clearly state: "The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions."
