TABOR
A mountain in Galilee, east of Nazareth. A conspicuous landmark because of its isolated location. Several military events in the Old Testament took place on Mount Tabor. Gideon's brothers were killed there by the Midianites (Judges 8:18). Barak led a dramatic charge down the mountain to defeat the Canaanites (Judges 4:14-16). There is a tradition that Jesus' Transfiguration took place on Mount Tabor rather on Mount Hermon, but it is impossible to prove.
