SELEUCIANISM

A form of Gnosticism that flourished in Galatia during the third century. It was crudely dualistic, claiming that God and matter were co-eternal, that God is the author of sin, that the human soul is made by angels out of material elements, that hell is the present world, that the resurrection is merely the generation of children. Seleucian ideas entered the stream of other heresies that tried to explain the problem of evil apart from deliberate malice in a created world.
