ST. ANN

(national shrine). Founded in New Orleans in 1852 by Archbishop Antoine Blanc as St. Ann's Church. On May 18, 1926, in a papal brief, Pope Pius XI made it the national shrine of St. Ann for the United States. A shrine bureau was established, and St. Ann's Herald became the official publication. Upwards of seventy thousand letters asking for prayers and favors come to the shrine annually.
