PORZIUNCULA

Also called Portiuncula or Porzioncula. Originally a very small church in Assisi where St. Francis received his vocation on February 24, 1208. He made it his headquarters for the rest of his life. The town has given its name to the Porziuncula Indulgence, now able to be gained by visiting certain (especially Franciscan) churches on August 2 or the Sunday following.
