Your Term:

O SALUTARIS HOSTIA

Hymn to the Blessed Sacrament. "O Saving Victim, Opening Wide," sung during Eucharistic Exposition. It forms the last two (fifth and sixth) verses of Verbum Supernum Prodiens, written by St. Thomas Aquinas, originally for Lauds on the feast of Corpus Christi. A standard English translation reads:

O saving Victim opening wide

The gate of heaven to man below!

Our foes press on from every side:

Your aid supply, Your strength bestow.

To Your great name be endless praise

Immortal Godhead, one in three!

O grant us endless length of days,

In our true native land to be. Amen.
