One of three Psalms, 50, 55, and 56 (Vulgate), each of which begins, in Latin, with the invocation, Miserere (Have mercy), but generally the title refers only to Psalm 50, which is the most common prayer for mercy in the Christian liturgy. (Etym. Latin miserere, have mercy [imperative].)
