IMAGES, VEILING OF
The custom in many rites of the Catholic Church of covering all crosses, pictures, and statues with plain purple cloth from two Sundays before Easter until the liturgy on Good Friday. In the Roman Rite the custom is no longer practiced, although in the liturgy on Good Friday there is an optional unveiling of the Cross before its veneration by the celebrant and people.
