FORMULA

The exact statement or formulation of a principle. In philosophy, there are logical formulas that state a general truth or proposition in terms of thought or speech. In ritual, there are prescribed formulas for the administration of sacraments and sacramentals. In theology, there are doctrinal formulas that express either all the essentials of the Christian faith, such as the Apostles' Creed, or certain aspects of the faith, especially when challenged or denied, such as the Berengarian formula on Christ's Real Presence in the Eucharist.
