COUNCIL, PROVINCIAL

Bishops and other prelates convoked in consultative and deliberative assembly to discuss whatever is conducive to religious growth in a particular territory. Matters of faith, morals, abuses, controversies, and discipline are taken into consideration. The suffragan bishop after consultation decides on the place of meeting and presides over it. The decrees of the council oblige throughout the province. Until the creation of national and regional conferences after the Second Vatican Council, provincial councils were to be held every twenty years.
