BELLS. BLESSING OF

A special solemn ceremony by a bishop or by a prist delegated by him to bless the bells in church belfries. first washed with holy water, they are then anointed inside and outside with holy oils, and prayers are offered that at the sound of these bells the evil spirits may be put to flight and the people of God called to prayer. A simple blessing is used for less important bells.
