BARTIMAEUS

A blind beggar who was sitting at the side of the road when Jesus passed with his disciples after visiting Jericho. The beggar attracted his attention by shouting and begged him to cure his blindness. Jesus did so on the spot and Bartimaeus joined the crowd following him (Mark 10:46-52). (Etym. Greek bartimaios, from Aramaic bartimai, son of Timaeus.)
