AGNOSTICISM
The theory that either knowledge or certitude about ultimates is impossible. In practice, it stresses uncertainty about the nature or substance of things, the existence of an immortal soul, the origin of the universe, life after death, and the existence and perfections of a personal God. (Etym. Greek agnōstos, unknown, unknowable.)
