the theology of rising hemlines: a new approach to 'revelation'

By Diogenes (articles - email) | Jun 03, 2010

The next time some Catholic scholar recommends a fresh consideration of the possibility of ordaining women, think of these words of wisdom from our separated brethren:

I am an Episcopal priest in my early 50s who has three tattoos. Two of them are visible when I wear a skirt above my knees.

Question for discussion: How often should a woman over the age of 50 wear skirts above the knees? How often should a priest?

I think that what is interesting is that for me, the issue goes deep into the whole priestly identity…

Which makes it strange that St. John Vianney offers no guidance on the subject of priestly tattoos.

… And, yes, they are ‘theological’ tattoos

[Cue sound of parodist falling on sword.]
