A Wall Street Journal editorial today points out that the US Army-- not the media-- uncovered the abuse of prisoners in Iraq. The editorial is worth reading for its own sake, but for our purposes, notice the first phrase in this sentence:

Unlike the Catholic bishops, some corporate boards and the editors of the New York Times or USA Today, the military brass did not dismiss early allegations of bad behavior.
