Fr. Charles Curran, priest of the Diocese of Rochester, NY, prime-time dissident, and Diet Dr Pepper® Professor of Ethics at Southern Methodist University, has some harsh words for the crisis of leadership in the Irish Church.
Referring to how scandals have racked the Irish Church over the past decade, [Curran] observed: "The church itself has not dealt creatively with the problems it is facing internally and with the growing secularisation in Ireland".
Fr Curran, who teaches at Southern Methodist College in Dallas, Texas, added: "The hierarchical leadership has been slow to act and has not responded to the many problems facing the church today".
And where was Curran delivering these remarks? At St Patrick's College, Maynooth. About that leadership crisis, Father: the location of your podium proves your point.
