Most of the abuses mentioned in Redemptionis Sacramentum do not pertain to the celebration of the Eucharist in our Archdiocese because of our many efforts to provide intensive and extensive training in proper liturgical norms and practice. -- Card. Roger Mahony

Helen Hitchcock of Adoremus once said that it's no big mystery why priests play around with the Mass: "If you don't believe any of it, it must be like acting in The Mousetrap for ten thousand consecutive nights. You'd have to change things just to keep from going batty." The faith of the Eucharistic celebrant, or lack thereof, shouldn't be an overwhelming preoccupation for Catholic massgoers, since the sacrament is confected ex opere operato -- by the performance of the work itself.
