Once again, Cardinal Murphy-O'Connor summons his nerve, races up to the edge of the Catholic pool, and then freaks at the deep water and goes all multicultural on us.

At a July 8 Mass at London's Westminster Cathedral, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor of Westminster denounced the "havoc and tragedy and pain" brought to London by the suspected al-Qaida terrorists, for whom police are still hunting.

Right.

"The people who carried out these monstrous acts with chilling efficiency and forethought are believed to have acted in the name of religion," said the cardinal, before asking: "Who is their god?

Fair question.

"It is not the God who revealed himself to Moses and Jacob...

True.

... nor the God who, in Jesus Christ, walked this earth and died and rose to save humanity ..."

True, and worthy of emphasis. Had he stopped here he would have been fine.

"... nor the God worshipped by the Muslim people, who is almighty and merciful," he said."

But he just can't bring himself to talk Catholic. Getting closer, though.
