jack in the pulpit

By Diogenes ( articles ) | May 01, 2007

About 40 supporters of Nichols, most of them parishioners of St. Elizabeth Church in Lyndonville, were also in the courtroom to watch the proceedings, some wearing large white-and-black buttons that read "I believe in Father Steve."

Actually they believe in Father Steve Nichols selectively, it appears, since when he entered a guilty plea on charges of groping a teenager, they didn't believe that.

"I know Father Steve is innocent," said one of his supporters, who went on to announce that "he would be comfortable having Nichols back in the pulpit at St. Elizabeth Church once he is released from jail."

Pulpit? They still have pulpits in Vermont?
