eNewsletter Subject: The Future of George Cardinal Pell

The Victorian Court of Appeal in Australia is set to announce its decision on its review of George Cardinal Pell’s conviction for sexual abuse.

That announcement will be made at 9:30 am Wednesday in Victoria—that is, 7:30 pm EST today.

Three decisions are possible: (1) Pell’s original conviction, which most open-minded commentators judge to be a travesty of justice, may be sustained; (2) The appeals court could find fault with the previous process and so demand a new trial; or (3) The judgement against Pell could be overturned—a declaration that the Cardinal is not guilty of the charges brought against him.

Catholic World News will, of course, cover the story even though CWN Director Phil Lawler is happily vacationing with family. But we will leave serious commentary to Phil when he returns.
