eNewsletter Subject: Demoting papal controversy?

I am considering reducing emphasis on controversial news and commentary about Pope Francis by placing it nearer to the end of these messages.

Like Cicero, who often began a speech by saying “There is no need for anyone to tell you” about whomever he was about to skewer, I think the best way to raise this question is to use today’s highlights as a case in point.

Thus Pope Francis has bestowed a signal papal honor on the head of the international pro-abortion group, She Decides. The damage this is doing is evident just from reading the editorial note that goes with the story.

Moreover, the Pope has also made Francis Cardinal Mahony a papal envoy. Mahony, whom EWTN’s Mother Angelica famously (and imprudently) urged people to disobey, was relieved of his duties under Pope Benedict XVI because of the abuse scandal in Los Angeles.
