The Vatican Press has now published a booklet by the head of the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts—not writing in his official capacity—which argues that Amoris Laetitia is perfectly clear and then proposes yet another interpretation.

It is no wonder that Phil Lawler has had to write another installment: Vatican follies, continued.

Phil also comments briefly on two related matters: Theologians’ conflicts of interest, featuring that stalwart opponent of Humanae Vitae, Gregory Baum; and a timely reflection on Judging God's law by human standards.

Perhaps the biggest problem created in this pontificate is that faithful Catholics no longer really know if they are welcome in Rome. I have pulled out all the stops to answer that question: Warning: Our strengths are often our weaknesses. Same with the Pope.
