eNewsletter Subject: Catholics thinking outside the box, again

Pope Francis tends to think outside the box on social issues, taking the problems we would all prefer to ignore, but placing them in the context of the Christian Faith. We have yet another example in his recent addresses in Boliva.

In my latest On the Culture essay, I try to draw out the implications of the Pope's confrontation with our endemic social ills: Pope Francis: Change rooted in local realities, not imposed from above.

The Pope's approach also diverges widely from things like, say, the Affirmative Consent Project, which ignores the nature of the human person. See Phil Lawler's witty send-up: A modest proposal—did I say proposal?—regarding consent before sex.

Meanwhile, unlike Phil, whose humor apparently keeps him forever young, I've been musing on growing old: Intimations of Immortality, again....
