As I write this I am entering on my most relaxed week of the year, during which I will keep up with only the tasks essential to our apostolate. But let me acquaint you very briefly with what we have already begun to cover on CatholicCulture.org this week.

First, of course, the world is abuzz with Pope Francis' efforts to send a message of mercy to those to whom Catholic teaching and sacramental practice can sometimes seem harsh: persons with same-sex orientation and couples who are divorced and remarried. In general, it goes without saying that the secular press has got this all wrong. But the initiative is still striking.

Pope Francis is now back from World Youth Day, where up to three million people heard him preach. He has offered so many addresses and homilies in recent days that I will not list them all.
