eNewsletter Subject: One more week to prepare!

I was pleased to see how Phil Lawler has commented on the reopening of Notre Dame in Paris—the thoughts that should be going through our own heads in response to such a potentially great occasion: What the re-dedication of Notre Dame (should have) taught us.

The restoration of a great cathedral also reminds us of the intense human particularity of Christianity. Jesus is a real person who was born as a helpless baby in a particular place and at a particular time. This deeply personal link between our Creator and ourselves is unique to Christianity.

I am sure that is one reason Fr. Jerry Pokorsky is not thrilled by The Artificial Jesus recently installed in Saint Peter Chapel in Switzerland.

I have a similar reaction to the not unrelated committee-ism of “synodal” Catholicism. It seems any old non-Christic, non-ecclesial, and non-sacramental reality will do for those who use synodality to hijack the Church. See my latest: Synodality today: The power of God or the wisdom of men?
