the hate business

Last Saturday, we're informed by the California Catholic Daily, a Gay Pride March took place in San Diego. Along the route the marchers passed a Los Angeles-based group of street preachers who, according to the CCD, "held bold-lettered signs with Bible verses condemning homosexuality." Police had formed a cordon between preachers and marchers in order to preempt violent confrontation. The leader of the preacher contingent, one Ruben Israel, made the following eminently apposite remark:
"People often think we are preaching a very hard message and that we're the ones that are hateful. My response is, 'Which direction are the police facing, them or us?'"
Bull's eye.
